Chief Technology Officer

NORTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION – NCVPS, Raleigh, NC 1/2014 – 6/2016)
Education Consultant I (Curriculum)
Duties include being responsible for course development and
quality assurance for NCVPS courses, ensuring the course development and
revision process adheres to instructional design standards, serving as the
primary development oversight and point of contact for specific development
and/or revision teams, coordinating with Instructional Directors to provide
assistance to teachers through the use of data to improve course content,
delivery and support models, coordinating training as identified by
evaluation/assessment of teachers, providing support to teachers through
professional development, curriculum monitoring, modeling, and coaching; ensuring congruence between the written,
taught and tested curriculum.
Accomplishments:
- Lead the Partnership Committee of the NCVPS
Advisory Board, which has since seen an increase in communication and work
sessions since its conception.
- Consulted local school districts on how to
implement virtual Science Olympiad Teams as a solution to budget constraints.
- While serving as the SAS, Gizmo, and Discovery
Education Coordinator/Administrator for NCVPS; monthly data usage reports
were created and made available to all NCVPS staff by lobbying and
collaborating with the above vendor/company representatives.
- Organized and managed the Gizmo accounts in
addition to the SAS and Discovery Learning accounts, for all NCVPS science
and math teachers and created a school wide Account Inventory Document
available to all NCVPS staff by collaborating with Instructional Leaders,
Instructional Directors, and Gizmo company representatives. Recognition
was received by both Discovery Learning and Gizmo Representatives for the
extra efforts placed upon being data driven.
- Worked with Technology Staff to revise the Web 2.0
Tool Request Process for NCVPS, which included conducting interviews for
accepted teacher submissions, teacher notification system for submissions,
and a weekly update/article posted in the NCVPS Teacher Letter Blog to
inform and instruct all NCVPS teachers and staff on the use of the newly
approved Web 2.0 tools. As a result of this work, the usage of Web 2.0
tools and resources have increased.
- Created the Understanding by Design professional
learning experience that was used to promote course development efforts.
- Represented and lead NCVPS efforts concerning the
Global Education Work Group at the Department of Public Instruction.

PLC Facilitator
Duties
include plan and facilitate an interactive virtual
PLC or in-person session each month (see calendar below), maintain communication with Corps Members to supplement PLC
meetings (time will vary), consult with ENC
Teaching and Learning staff on Corps Members’ progress and needs as identified
by the ENC regional team in order to determine the most effective strategies
for upcoming PLC meetings (1 hour/month).

Education Consultant I (Instruction - Science)
Duties
include being responsible for five Science Instructional Leaders (IL) as it
relates to teacher coaching, IL coaching, and executing the NCVPS vision. Lead
professional development for ILs, eLCs, new teacher mentors, and succession
planning for science department. Manage the hiring process as it relates to
approving all teacher hires, contracts and paperwork, course assignment
process, registration system, technology requests, and access to learning management systems.
Manage the course development, quality, and revisions for the science
department. Conduct teacher evaluations/conferences and monitor teacher spot
checks conducted by ILs and pass rates for all science courses. Seek and
establish partnerships with other private, state, and federal agencies.
Organize and promote events to promote growth and development of science
students and teachers.
Accomplishments:
- Developing partnerships with several NCDPI
counterparts, NC state museums, state universities, and private science
related organizations.
- Experienced pass rate growth in each science
course.
- Increased the teaching pool for the science
department by 25%.
- Numerous science teachers nominated for various
awards across the state and country.
- Organized the first NCVPS day at the NC Museum of
Science.
- Organized the first virtual Science Olympiad Team,
with all team members earning medals at the Regional Tournament, and three
students advancing to the State Tournament.
- Implemented the addition of a citizen science
component in each science course, which led to recognition from Cornell
University and providing the university with feedback on future modules.
- First to quantify the current teacher spot check
(evaluation) form and conduct an action research study concerning its use
as it relates to pass rate data.

Education Consultant I (Modular Learning)
Duties include providing day- to-day support as related to
working with NCVPS teachers and the schools to provide support, working with
the credit recovery team to develop school support plan for modular learning
courses each semester, preparing the virtual training for school systems on
student support plan, and then implementing the training, working with the
teacher teams during course development: interactive tools, unit flow review,
content- creation review, working with Instructional Leaders in our continuous
improvement of the instructional model, created Teacher Orientation Courses for
both new and veteran teachers and the new Teacher Assistant (TA) Process,
administering teacher evaluations and coaching Instructional Leaders on how to
conduct evaluations, designed and
created Physical Science Modular Learning and OCS Biology Courses and lead
teacher teams, worked with Virtual Learning
Consultants to learn processes and procedures for communication and school
support, worked with Student Support Services team to determine modules needed
and developed multiple media formats for delivery to stakeholders, developed
and participated in trainings sessions for Distant Learning Advisors, Served as the liaison between Carolina
Biological and NCVPS, created Credit Recovery Demo Course that showcased
modules from each course, coached English I and Science eLCs (e – Learning
Community) on how to carry out a successful eLC and their individual roles,
created a uniform student feedback system for Credit Recovery teachers, served
on the Formative Assessment Committee representing Credit Recovery, created and
Managed the Credit Recovery Virtual Teacher Lounge Blog, coached teachers on
how to showcase teacher quality to the public, restructured
the NCVPS Teacher Letter and created a new method for staff and teachers to
submit information for the Teacher Letter, reorganized the Teacher Resource
Course to differentiate for each teacher’s needs, coach prospective and current
TAs to complete application process, complete TA Process requirements, provide
them with technical support, provide them with private/group tutorials, and
differentiations, lead science course revisions teams and provided common
core/essential standard training, Solicited support for mentor funding to be added
to the budget, presented non-monetary options to be offered to mentors, coached
Instructional Leaders through a SWOT analysis to determine the needs of NCVPS
teachers and how to address these needs in the Orientation Courses and
throughout the semester.
Accomplishments:
- Lead the teacher quality component for the
school’s 600+ teachers and teacher assistants, differentiating for all
departments in the following programs Traditional, Credit Recovery, OCS,
and STEM.
- Revised past Orientation Courses for both new and
veteran teachers in each of the above programs listed.
- Created current Teacher Induction Process.
- Created, assessed, and managed the professional
development process for 600+ teachers and teacher assistants.
- Assisted in the development of the OCS Program.

Duties include collecting and organizing data into reports
for CTE, AVID, and Secondary Education district budgets, CTE local planning
software program, SAT data district reports, attend secondary education
curriculum council, school board, and district director meetings, analyze AVID

during the first two years of my tenure, provided assistance with the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Accreditation by serving on the
Curriculum and Instruction Team, maintained an 86% pass rate on NC End of
Course Chemistry exam, participated in Advancement Via Individual Determination
(AVID) Tutorial Program, volunteered with numerous athletic events, served on
the Quality Educational Systems – Tools for Transformation (QuESt)
guidance/counseling committee, assessed and maintained chemistry budget and
chemical stock room, served as a liaison for new science teachers, responsible
for maintaining chemical inventory, use of computer skills such as Microsoft,
Access, Excel, Windows, and Gradebook.
Adjunct Science Professor
Duties included nurturing the science skills of students who
participated in the Students Transitioning Into Today’s Career Health
(S.T.I.T.C.H) & Upward Bound Programs, guiding students through school
admission requirements and science courses needed to reach their chosen
careers, serving as a mentor to all students, interpreting testing data (EOC
& SAT) to parents/students, designing individualized curriculums for each
student based upon test data, collaborating with college professors, and career
counseling for students.
